Need to change IR Codes

Have Toshiba SD-H400 tivo unit w/ DVD ( series2) Purchased (DVRupgrade) 320 GB Drive. Need to add IR code Primestar 10004 so it will work with my Sat box. Does anyone know how to program this option? Do I need to do this prior to installation ? I have software BA48-4 and 1ba_boot _cd If that helps any. Appreciate any help. Thanks

Not sure how to do that, or whether its even possible, but you won't be able to make any software modifications with the tools you have.

Have you attempted to call TiVo to find out whether this is something that can be done with your particular unit?

Thanks for responding. Don't know what I was thinking. I have a Pioneer 810 HS DVR. Know wonder nobobdy new what I was talking about. Does the hard drive I purchased from you need to be formatted? Will the Instant cake software help me with my challange? Thanks so much for your help. Disreguard my other e-mail.

Thanks for your reply. My Pioneer Tivo DVR when programed to record a program is suppose to change the channel on the cable or Satelite box.There is a remote LED that sits in front of the Sat box IR receiver In the set up mode the tivo asks for cable box or satleite box type. My Viewsat box is not listed. In order to add a IR code, you need to shell access your Tivo. Transfer the VSPlatium.tcl file to the Tivo/var/hack directory. Then select Primestar and the 10004 codeset. Don't know how to shell access.Hope this will help you to help me.

Getting shell access is not trivial; you'd need to use killhdinitrd to modify the kernel, and install additional software on the hard drive to do that. We don't offer any products which do this on standalone units because it is too complicated a scenario for us to support directly.

You may want to explore a bit at dealdatabase (http://www.dealdatabase.com) or TiVoCommunity (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/) about making those types of software modifications, but be forewarned, its not for folks who are non-technical, and even at that, its not for the faint-of-heart.
