Will upgrading my Hughes HDVR2 Series 2 Tivo to Instant Cake 6.4a and PTVnet 6.x with the USB network adapter (allowing me to use TivoWebPlus) fix all the problems that I (and others) are having with Season Passes missing shows unless the Season Passes are added over and over again?

InstantCake simply installs the TiVo software onto the hard drive, so just so its clear, you wouldn't be upgrading TO InstantCake, you'd be using InstantCake (or in this case, PTVnet and InstantCake) to create a drive for your unit running 6.4a of the software.
With that said, there is no evidence to support the notion that 6.4a FIXES the season pass problem some folks are having with 6.2a; in fact, some discussions at tivocommunity.com indicate that there are folks with 6.4a having problems with season passes, and others with 6.2a that are not having problems with season passes.

So then Lou there is no clear answer on what will get a Series 2 DirecTV Tivo unit to work reliably (as they used to)? I was going to update my Tivo to the latest version in hopes of ending this madness, but is there any point?

There is no clear answer because there is no clear solution to the problem. As you probably noticed in the discussions on tivocommunity, some people have the problem and some don't and it doesn't sound like DIRECTV is even acknowledging that the problem even exists at all.
Unfortunately, we cannot change that...

I will agree that DirecTV does not even awknowledge that the problem exists! I called them and they thought I was crazy. They just asked that I unplug my DVR and plug it back in!!
Well I have upgraded to 6.4a and will monitor and provide feedback if it helps any in my case.

Might want to chime-in on this thread (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=404601) (and answer the poll) with your results...
