Used InstantCake and PTVNet to upgrade a Hughes SD-DVR40. I used a Western Digital 320GB EIDE drive and the system now reports I have a capacity of around 300 hours.
The guide is working, the software version is current and all is well, except:
The sound drops out and we get visual artifacts constantly. Seems to average about every ten seconds. We had the DirecTV technician come out and he replaced the sensing unit on the dish, even though the signal levels were already reporting 90+ on virtually every node and channel. It changed nothing.
Anyone else have a similar issue? This was not happening before we installed the new HDD. By the way, the original drive was a slimline Maxtor "Fireball 3" ATA133 40GB.
UPDATE: Took the cover off and it appears the group of capacitors on the power supply board is covered with what looks like "great stuff" foam. One of the components barfed. I have the unit working on "single cable" setting and have a cooling fan blowing on the power supply card. Seems to be working better, but I miss the dual tuner setup and need to get this fixed.
