Hi
Not sure if this question belongs in this forum, if not please suggest a more suitable venue
I have upgraded my Directtv Series 2 tivo (hughes dvr40) to a 250g disk with winmfs
and it works fine. I applied the ptvnet "force" and opened up the usb port.
All this works fine.. i can telnet, ftp, tytool10r4 and tivowebplus with no problems
(except my own stupidity) both tserver and vserver are transfed and do run
I have installed tyshow without complaints
But when I go to playback the .ty file... it crashes windows media player and when I use windows explorer just to move it around it crashes as well.
Also when I use tivo desktop 2.6.2 it fails to connect.
What I am missing.... what am i doing or not doing ?
also my directtv series 2 tivo is running 6.4a....
any suggestions would be helpful
thanks

I guess I need to pay more attention... I have found
that superpatch-67all-NutKase1.1.tcl failed to run.. because I have 6.4a in my dvr.
Does anyone know if there isa updated superpatch for 6.4a ?

Can you please provide a link (or a summary) of the solution to your problem? Others reading the forums might find that useful, as well.
Thx,
Lou

Lou,
I have successfully installed your pvnet and tytools software on my tivo series 2 (directv)
This was done on an upgraded hard drive also purchased from you.
I was hoping the author of this thread had posted a link to deal with the issue of playing .ty files on the pc after downloading from tivo.
I have everything working but windvd, windows media player and vlc will not open the .ty files for playing. I would really appreciate a link to a site explaining how to watch this file type on my pc.
Thanks,
-john

Sorry, not my area of expertise. Probably not a good idea to direct posts to individuals - it is a public forum so hopefully others can help you out.
Thx,

well i have a few links that can help...
but 1st be sure make a serial cable so if you need to trouble shoot at least you can see whats going on. http://www.geocities.com/mlm19811999/tivo_serial_bash.html
here is what i learned... ty files can be scrambled/encrypted or not.. i think something called superpatch... turns off scambling so you will be able to play these files. but the ones already recorded need to be unscrambled before they can play....
this is what scrambled/encrptyed means,,,, extraction i figure is getting off the tivo
here is a good place to start... lots of info.. but short on exactly what to do
http://dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39207
next is one that is a lot more clearer and this is what i followed
http://www.dvrpedia.com/Unencrypt/Unscramble_Existing_Recordings
on page 14 of that thread... is a more detailed procedure
http://www.dvrupgrade.com/forums/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=4101
hope this helps

Lou,
I have successfully installed your pvnet software on my tivo series 2 (directv) 6.4a
This was done on an upgraded hard drive also purchased from you.
I now have telnet, tivowebplus and ftp working without issue. I would like to purchase a second unit that would allow shows to be transfered to it from the above unit. Can you point me to a source? Do I simply purhcase a series 3 Tivo DVR from you and hook it to my home network containing the above Tivo.
Thanks,
-john

6.4a lacks the MRV software, so there is no known way to hack a unit running 6.4a so that MRV can be used between/among multiple Series2 DIRECTV units. That can be done with 6.2a, but one has to be careful when making those modifications, so that the software doesn't update to 6.4a, overwriting your hacks.
There is no way to stream videos from these units to Series3/TiVo HD units.
Again, probably not a great idea to address these posts to one specific individual; others may have input on the topic (also consider starting a new thread for off-topic items). Thx.
