I have Pioneer DVR810H that is stuck on "Please wait...Powering Up", also the LCD in the front of the unit has gone dark.
Any advice on what could be causing this to happen. I rebooted the unit a couple of times, still the same message, opened the DVD tray and confirmed there is no DVD stuck.

Most likely, it's a bad hard drive. But, it could also be a problem with the unit, itself.
No way to know without further testing.

Thanks Lou. Instant bake did the job, original hard drive was bad, got the instant bake and loaded that on new hard drive and unit is now fully functional.
Thank you again.

I have this same problem with my Pioneer....the same model.
I downloaded Instant Cake, followed the instructions on a new, larger drive (160GB). Installed, booted, system reset, and everything worked perfectly! But then, one day when I was to be gone for a week, I put the unit into "sleep" mode (it generates a fair amount of heat when running.) When I returned and tried to start it up again, it did this same thing again. It gives me the gray "powering up screen", then the colored TIVO sceen that says something like "almost there, just a few more minutes" and then it stays on that screen a very long time and then just returns to the gray "powering up" screen and starts it all over again.
So I was glad I had the instant cake image on CD and I just did it all over again. Re-baked the cake, so to speak, reinstalled and booted it up. It worked perfectly again for about two days, or until it had updated from TIVO again and went to do a re-boot and then again, it now does the same thing......Powering Up, Tivo's "just about there......" screen, then restart again, over and over.
I would "rebake" it a third time, but if this is just going to keep happening, it is not worth it. Any ideas as to why it works fine the first time, but once programming is updated it starts this same problem again?

The OP had a bad hard drive, and he solved it by replacing it with a new one. ;)
