Good day,

I purchased PTVnet, InstantCake, and a TrueNet USB NIC from DVR Upgrade back in April. I installed everything with the intent of accessing my Hughes HDVR2 (Directv) via my home network but I have been using it as a standalone unit until I had time to resolve my network connectivity into the room where my Tivo box is installed.

I have since modified a WRT54G router with the DD-WRT build (Client Bridge mode) and tested this with my laptop. I found that I was able I was able to get an IP from my main router then surf the network using the NIC. I even added a one-line script to my DD-WRT box to ensure it rejoins my home network when powering up.

I then installed the USB NIC and DD-WRT to my Tivo. I restarted my TIVO and watched a ping to the IP (I assigned a static IP to the USB NIC MAC address from my main router DHCP settings) but never received a reply. I discovered that the USB NIC never powered up after rebooting the TIVO. This is the same NIC I tested a few minutes earlier on my notebook so I am guessing that the USB, or NIC driver, on my TIVO may not be configured properly.

I would like to avoid reinstalling all the software to my TIVO because I have recorded content I would like to keep (and intended to archive it from my network once everything is working). I am not against connecting a serial cable to the TIVO and working with the operating system to resolve this problem but I could not find a concise guide on what to do in the forums. I am a network professional although I am not Linux/UNIX savvy. I can learn with the proper references and would actually enjoy this because I intend to add other funtionality to this box down the road.

I would greatly appreciated any direction on how to resolve this problem NIC problem.

Adam
