View Full Version : How do I configure a second drive only?
I only want to add a second drive to my unit, and do not want to loose any information on my primary drive. How do I setup instacake to do this?
When I run it it only gives me a "NEW" setup for 2 drives or a Single Master drive.
Thanks
Randy

You cannot do that with Instantcake. You need to go to www.MFSlive.org and download MFSlive-1.3b.iso CD. run it, read about MFSadd command. that is how it is done. :D

InstantCake is designed to create replacement drive kits for your unit, not add-on drives.
You can use the BlessTiVo command (BlessTiVo is included on your InstantCake CD) to prepare an add-on drive for your unit, if you prefer. You can search for the BlessTiVo syntax on these forums, or even using google for more information.
I wish the sales information spelled that out. The unit I bought it for has shows my mother WILL not erase. Will this version DSR708 work on a Hughes dvr2 so I can at least upgrade the other unit in my house ? or am I SOL :o

Actually, the sales information does spell it out, but I'm sorry if you missed it. The DSR708 and Hughes HDVR2 are two different units which require two different types of software.
I would not say you are SOL, though, its just a matter of using the software to do what it was designed to do vs trying to use it for something else. Of course, if you are truly interested in adding a drive to your unit (as your original post indicated) you can use the CD and BlessTiVo to do that, as well; we don't recommend that, as replacing a drive is safer to do, but it is certainly your option to do that.

If you add a second drive to the Hughes unit using MFSlive-1.3b.iso CD you will not have to buy anything, only run MFSadd. Hence a no software cost upgrade. Only the cost of the hard disk. :)
Thanks, The Hughes unit has nothing I want to save so Instacake is PERFECT! I guess I will get the other software for the DSR708, This board is refreshing people actually answer your question. Thanks for the info, I am bummed I tossed $20.00 and can not use this software for what I actually need.:(
