have configured wd hard drive for cs and for master makes no change on the settings.

Well, it looks like I could have had a couple of bad 40 gb drives. I did try 3 different ones though.
I tried a WD 120GB, and wholla!
So disregard.

This is addressed in the release notes (http://www.dvrupgrade.com/dvrupgrade-support-center/?mod_id=2&id=115); for Series1 DirecTiVo units (and standalone units) the new drive must be larger than the original.
You can use the free LBA48 CD (http://www.dvrupgrade.com/dvr/stores/1/lba48_support.cfm), along with PTVbake-special, on drives that are the original size; the reason why larger drives are required is because InstantCake (by default) creates a slightly larger swap space than TiVo uses by default.
Lou,
I figured that out last night when I baked a 120GB drive instead.
Saw your post over on the tivocommunity.com forum on the "using other images" on the other units. I never meant to highjack the thread, but I saw in reading that all series 1 DVRs used the same image.
Keep up the good work. I only hope that DTV pulls their heads from their asses and build another HD-TIVO product. Although the HR20 is "ok" it's not the Tivo UI (user interface).
I have purchased several items from your organization and always value the engineering time and support you put into the "after-market" products.
Keep up the good work!
Thanks,

Please don't take this the wrong way, but what you read is either wrong or being misinterpreted.
They DON'T use the same image, and your comment on that other thread is EXACTLY what I'm trying to prevent people from walking away and thinking is true. The images are NOT interchangeable and even though they appear to work, they should not be used that way. PLEASE trust me on this.
In any case, that's not the topic of this thread, either, so lets not change the subject over here. Anyone else who now reads this could easily be confused.
Thanks for the compliments, please help me make my job easier by trusting what I say on the issue I spoke of above!
Cheers and have a great weekend,
Lou
