I bought the instacake download for my tivo, But after opening my computer realized I only have one ide port. But to install the cd I need to have the cd drive on the primary and the hard drive on the secondary, In which I cannot do now, Right?

. Is there any way to install a ide port or some kind of adapter? I was looking at this one "USB 2.0 to IDE" But I was just wondering if anyone knew if that would create a secondary master? I am really confused, Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Or is there someway to install from a usb device, Any help would be appreciated,

My tivo broke almost seven months ago and I have just kept paying the bill even though it was not used. I could not get out of the contract and I didn't have enough for a new pre-installed tivo drive, But I am now trying to fix it as 15.99 a month is alot to be throwing away.

I paid for the image (TCD649080) but it gives me an error like this:

"/dev/hdc: Cannot be found or accessed"

From what I can tell is that its trying to load the secondary slave, But there is not one.

I have three hard drives, One of which (IDE) is going to be the tivo, and the other two are (SATA), But I have a series 2 so I cannot use those.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please take a look at this thread (http://www.dvrupgrade.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73&highlight=PTVbake-special) editing the InstantCake script will let you hard-code the device types to something else, but the version of the software you have is not really designed to be run on PC's with less than two IDE controllers. If you are not comfortable finding and editing the scripts, you always have the alternative of purchasing a pre-configured kit (http://www.dvrupgrade.com/dvr/stores/1/category.cfm?Category_ID=2&Product_ID=0&ModelID=93&type=Model&page=cat&CFID=261943&CFTOKEN=75487623); we'll give you full trade-in on the cost of your software purchase, just email us with the order information.

I really do not have the money for a new hard drive, And I think I could edit those files,

Could you tell me what file it is?, It looks to be .live/bin/PTVBOOT is this correct?

And inside that file I do not see this:

CDROM="hdb"
PTVupgradeA="hdc"
PTVupgradeB="hdd"
DRIVES="1"

The only thing I see is this:

# Assign Defaults
PTVupgradeA="hdc"
PTVupgradeB="hdd"

I tried switching it to hdb and hdc but it tells me cannot load from .live/bin/PTVBAKE
Thanks for your help.
