TS-RX20 goes into clearing and deleting

I just picked a RS-TX20 that the previous owner described as sluggish. When I power it up it gets to the almost there screen. Then on its own it switches to the clearing and deleting everything screen. It stays stuck there, I left it on for 3-4 hours. This is a stock unit.

I assume this is a bad hard drive? I've already picked up a new 320GB Hitachi Deskstar drive. I'm just checking here before I buy the Instantcake software. Tia.

I wouldn't make that assumption, although chances are that the problem is a defective hard drive. Run PC diagnostics on it to be certain... See the DIY software area for more information and discussion if its your plan to use InstantCake.
