Hello,

I have 2 series 2 Tivos that both recieved a service update the other night. They rebooted after the update as expected and are now both stuck in a reboot loop. They do the following:

1.) Start with the "Welcome, powering up..." screen
2.) Then, after a few minutes, go to the "Almost there just a few minutes more" screen
3.) Then, after a few minutes, they reboot and do it all over again

I've run Kickstart 57,58, and 52 multiple times, still no luck, the reboot loop just continues.

I then removed the harddrive from one of them, used mfstools to copy the hardrive to another drive I had available, and reinstalled the new drive. As I sort of expected, the new drive does exactly the same thing, stuck in a reboot loop.

I could just use InstantCake and get back up and running, but I depsaratly want to preserve the shows. When I boot to the mfstools CD I can access the harddrive and see the content is still there, just seems like the Tivo service update hosed the application.

Anyone have any ideas of what else I can try? Thanks!

What are the model numbers of the units in question?

Were these upgraded units and if so, how were they upgraded and what size drives did you use?

Lou,

Thanks! Both are model TCD540040. Each has had the single 40GB drive they came with removed and a 320GB replacement drive installed, using InstantCake. No other upgrades.
Both had been working fine for several months leading up to this.

Might want to follow-along and subscribe to this thread over at TCF (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=425589). It's not clear whether the only people affected are ones who used InstantCake or MFStools, but so far, all the people who have mentioned having a problem have TCD540 units.

Thanks, will do. That thread sounds exactly like what I'm experiencing.
