I have recently lost a hard drive on my Pioneer 57H Series 2 DVR, and have bought instant cake to format a new drive for use as a replacement drive.

File name for instant cake: instantcake-IC2-pioneer-57H-7.2.0-tak-01-2-275.iso

I have attached to my system the following configuration:

Primary EIDE Channel:
Master: Not connected
Slave: Memorex DVD-RW drive ( Jumper set to slave )

Secondary EIDE Channel:
Master: Maxtor 120GB Drive ( Jumper set to Master )
Slave: Not Connected

SATA
Port 1: Not Connected
Port 2: Not Connected

No other external drives are connected ( USB, ETC )

Instant Cake Starts it's process and locates the two drives but produces the following general series of errors:

 ide0: unexpected interrupt, Status = 0 x 00, count xxxxxxx

I have tried multiple cables and verified master slave settings on drives but instant cake produces the same errors.

I'm hoping someone has had this issue before and knows what the solution is.

Also, does anyone have a list of the error codes for Instant Cake and a listing of the output of what instant cake should be doing for a correctly run format of a drive?

Thanks for your help in this matter,

( BTW, I apologize if this topic has already been discussed, please provide link if it has )

1) bad CD burn - try reburning at a slower speed and/or with a different media type

2) problem with your CD-ROM drive (I've seen it before over at dvrplayground.com in the archives)

3) PC incompatibility; rare, but I've heard of that before, too.

I will retry with my second computer with a different hardware setup and a different media type and see what results are with that setup.

Thanks for your reply to my question.

I was able to successfully run the instantcake software and update my DVR-57H harddrive. The issue of the unexpected interrupt with number sectors counting up ended up with the following solution:

The Asus mother board that I was using had two options for IDE configurations:

Onboard IDE Operate Mode:
Enhanced Mode and Compatible Mode

Under enhanced mode the Linux Operating system would not start up and allow the instant cake software to run. So by Changing this option to Compatible mode this cleared up the issue and allowed the Linux software to load correctly. I suspect that the enhanced mode allows the BIOS to activate the SATA and EIDE controllers for operation while the Compatible mode will only allow the EIDE controllers for Primary and Secondary to load and be mountable by the Linux boot Kernel.

Both DVD-RW Drives & all cabling that I had worked BTW.

Hope this helps for trouble shooting and error corrections in the future.

I would suggest that the documentation for instantcake be updated to show valid installs or each screen and a list of error codes and the issues that cause them would be extremely helpful for end users.

All in all very easy after the hardware issues were taken care of.
