After installing a replacement 1T drive in my Tivo HD, will the M cablecard work right out of the chute, or will I need to call Comcast to have it reinitialized? I'm in Portland, OR.
Thanks!

It really depends upon your cable provider and where you are. The only way to know for sure is to try it - and if it doesn't work you will need to contact your cable company. They may be able to reinitialize over the phone, but in some places, the only way they can/will do it is by coming out to you.

I just upgraded original Series 3 with AV-GP Western Digital drive and lost CableCARD pairing. I recall reading this was a likely result of drive rebuild/upgrade (I'm sure Weakknees, 9thTee, and DVRupgrade dont' want to get in legal battle with Comcast lawyers).
I called Comcast tech support and told them "I need you to re-pair/re-initialize my CableCARD and the tier1 rep was completely out of water".
I wasted five minutes of my life and now Comcast tech is scheduled for onsite visit.
It's interesting to note that I learned some interesting intell on Comcast from field technician. Comcast corp really wants every customer using Comast-branded PVR. The CableCARD solutions are just a nuisance and somewhat a voo-doo topic for entry-level techs.
Thus, CableCARD issues are an issue easily resolved if you know the right person @ Comcast (or cable provider, etc).
Thus, suggest you immediately ask to talk with shift supervisor and ask for the "cablecard specialist". In this case, you'll hit good person only 25% of time. The field techs are where the knowledge is at -- but, in the case of comcast, they'll try to charge you $40 for any "after the fact" changes to Tivo cablecard setup following upgrade.
I my case, Comcast field service rep on schedule for 8-10am. I hope to resolve over the phone (ie. don't interrupt my Cheerios).

I recently upgraded my four-year-old Series3 from a 250GB HD to a 1 TB drive (w/software installed) from DVR Upgrade. The swap was easy and took very little time. During the TiVo reboot, when asked about the CableCards, I did not request a pairing from Verizon FiOs, as I understand from other forums that Verizon doesn't require this. I get all of my channels, shows are recording, the Season Pass re-sent went fine, the complete Guide has downloaded, everything seems as before - except that I get a gray screen and a (seemingly) slight pause when changing channels. Should this be happening? Do I need to call and get the pairing? I too don't need to pay for a technician to come to the house.
