I am part of a large group now w/o any local channels as we were sitting pretty on 6.2a for the past 5+ years...well, I fired up my slicer tool and sliced my first one - (it was a mutt of a TiVo using very old hacks) and it worked fine, got my locals, TWP worked etc. Did not even have to re-add any hacks except a few web remote ones.

DVR #2 which was a fresh build using Instacake way back when, TWP, hackman etc....ran slicer - took longer to run, but it ran and fniished. Got my locals back, bash works etc. - but TWP is not letting me in to the web address. Went into ptvupgrade/tivowebplus and ran ./tiwoweb - but nada - does not let me in to the web address.

Been sooo long since these were hacked...I am not sure where to go now to figure out why TWP is not loading. I have 2 more DVR's to slice to get them with locals - but I need to get TWP working - anyone care to help figure where to start to see where did slicer go wrong or is 6.4a not liking v2 of TWP (yet my first DVR works)?

Hello All,

New member here! Glad to say I've fixed my hacked DirecTivo's missing locals problem using InstantCake and PTVNet to upgrade to 6.4a. Thanks DVRUpgrade! One problem though...When I access TWP in my browser..all pages and tabs to do things work EXCEPT the "Info" tab...when I click on "Info", I get a blank page with this:

INTERNAL SERVER ERROR
--cut here--
action_info '' ''
couldn't execute "/ptvupgrade/tivowebplus/bin_mips/get_space": permission denied
while executing
"error $error"
(procedure "get_totalsizes" line 8)
invoked from within
"get_totalsizes"
(procedure "MOD::action_info" line 4)
invoked from within
"$cmd $p1 $p2 $p3"
(procedure "do_action" line 19)
invoked from within
"do_action $action $chan $part $env 1"
--cut here--

Any ideas? I've been playing with getting some other hacks and since this is a learning experience, I've had to re-do my drive a few times with the CD's and TWP has been doing this since the first install...is it possible that something is wrong with my copy of PTVNet?

Thanks!

I'm getting really frustrated. I've spent probably 12 hours trying to get InstantCake to work using various methods and hardware setups, but so far no success.

I have a Dell Studio XPS. All internal optical drives and hard drives are controlled via SATA. I'm trying to create a new Tivo Series 3 hard drive from a Western Digital Green 1TB drive. For all attempts I have disconnected the second optical drive and both internal hard drives, leaving only one optical drive and the hard drive to be converted to Tivo hooked up.

I've tried using InstantCake according to the installation instructions but get hung because the CD-ROM won't mount. Using the "mount" command line, I've tried every possible letter combination of sda, sdb, etc., but none work.

During the information gathering process, I tell IntantCake that my system is SATA, rather than PATA. A previous post suggested trying PATA, but that didn't work.

I tried the process set forth in another post to boot from an MFSLive boot disk and install InstantCake from a USB thumb drive, but the thumb drive won't mount. One post stated the thumb drive must be formatted as FAT. Windows 7 does not give me the option to format a thumb drive as FAT, only FAT32 and exFAT (and NTFS, of course). I've tried both FAT32 and exFAT without success. I'm trying to get access to a Mac in hopes that it will allow me to format the thumb drive as FAT. Maybe that will work ....

In hopes that a more current version of MFSLive (v1.4) would help, I copied all of the files from the InstantCake CD EXCEPT the isolinux folder into a new folder on my Desktop, and then copied the isolinux folder from the most current version of MFSLive into the same folder. I then burned the contents of that folder onto a CD-ROM, hoping to create an InstantCake boot disk with a more current version of linux. But the computer wouldn't recognize it as a boot disk. Anything special I need to do to make the CD-ROM bootable?

The InstantCake instructions for the most part seem to date from days when internal drives were mostly IDE. Can anyone tell me what changes to the InstantCake instructions need to be made to adopt them to all SATA controllers?

I can't understand why the CD-ROM won't mount. And who knows what problems I might encounter trying to mount the hard drive, as I haven't even been able to get past the CD-ROM mounting problem yet. Any help would be appreciated.

(As an aside, why is the downloadable version of InstantCake the same price as the CD? There are no manufacturing, inventory, shipping, or handling issues with a download, so it seems like it should be less expensive).

Thanks!

DVR R10 to 6.4a?

Another happy Direct TV user with missing local channels.........

I upgraded my R10 to a larger disk a while back, so I figure I should be able to stick 6.4a on it. Sent an email to the contact at dvrupgrade 4-5 hours ago and just got a response.

I"m using all Windows 7 machines at this point, so I'd need software that's compatible. In my question I asked WHICH SOFTWARE DO I NEED, and instead of answering my question, I got:

I can't comment on compatibility with your Win7 PC, but InstantCake will load 6.4a onto a TiVo drive. You should check the release notes and be sure that your PC is compatible with the software.

SHOULDN'T the people with the software KNOW WHETHER OR NOT IT'S COMPATIBLE?

So, I just need an answer from someone... Is there JUST a 6.4a downloadable piece of software? Or do I need the "instacake" for $40 instead? 'Cause for $10 it's worth trying, but if it's $40 I may as well let weaknees do the work for the extra $10.

Impact of allowing DirecTV calling a Baked installation

I baked my two Hughes-DVR80 with 6.2 in 2006 or so. Since then I haven't ever allowed the machine to call via phone (updates received through the Ethernet connection).

I lost my local TV channels this weekend. Talking with DirecTV they claim unless I allow a phone call there is no fix, unless I upgrade to new equipment.

My options would appear:

-Couldn't locate any post with a solution/work around to get local channels.

- Installing a local antenna and injecting to my network, is a possible - but very ugly option. However, I don't know if this will work as DirecTV no longer charges a premium for local channels.

-What will happen if I hook up my box to a phone line - will it update software from DirecTV and destroy previously recorded shows, or just cause loss of MRV and other valued features including network access.

-I recall selecting options when backing my drives, to tell the system to not call DirecTV. Can I change this with out rebaking - if so how?

-Will ugrading/rebaking from 6.2 to 6.4 solve the local channels issues? But again it would appear I loose other features.

- Other Options to consider...

Thanks,
Stuart

I just got a new HDVR2 from a surplus store and installed a 500g Maxtor HD with version 6.2a on it from instantcake. I'm trying to get the 6.4a version to download through the phone but I don't know if that will work. Can someone tell me if I can get it that way or do I need to get the newer version of Instantcake to do it, or is it possible that Directv can send it through the satelite line?
