DVRupgrade TiVo Upgrade Forums - Series2 DirecTV TiVo DVR Discussions

These are the second generation of TiVo DVR systems which contain integrated tuners designed to work with DirecTV. All of these units have a USB port on the rear panel, however DirecTV never enabled them. Series2 DirecTiVo units have built-in DirecTV tuners and require a subscription with DirecTV. Discussion of upgrades, software mods, PTVnet kits and networking is welcome here.

I'm having a heck of a time installing a new hard drive in my RCA DVR40. I've successfully baked a 3.5" hard drive in the past using instantCake and PTVNet. This time, however, I decided to try a 2.5" IDE laptop drive instead. I bought the WD1600BEVE notebook drive and a 2.5" to 3.5" IDE adapter (which looks like it just 'fans' the pins out to mate with the larger connector - there are no solid state components on the adapter board). Everything went swimmingly through the baking process, but I can't get the Tivo past the 'Welcome. Powering up...' screen. There are no jumper settings on the adapter, but there are settings on the drive. I've tried both cable select and master, but neither fixes the problem. I can swap my old baked drive back in and everything works fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Nate

Question about the HR22 - 100

First of all, hello to all, I am a new user. I am looking forward to reading/learning a lot in the forums, and posting from time to time as well, it's nice to meet all of you, and with that being said, I would like to ask a question. Before I ask I would like to say that I have Googled, Bing'd and even Asked Jeeves!
I would love to know if there is a possibility that the HR22 - 100 that I have is going to be upgradable in the future using the software that I have at my disposal on this site as well as other sites? I have read in the forums that the HR22 is in fact "not" a TiVO that it is something else however the posts I have read don't go into much detail as to what it is that I actually have.
More information regarding my DirecTV receiver would be very helpful as well if someone would care to take the time and give me some insight.
Based on the information given by you guys, I will wait to ask my others questions in a future post this way I can go in to more detail as to how I'd like to ask.

Thanks in advance for your time, and I look forward getting to know my HR22 a lot better.
