Tried ti bake a cake.. now stuck at welcome screen
Ok I did an instant cake on my series 2 3 yrs back and it worked great.
Got hold of a series 1 with a bad (dying hard drive) so I decided to try and up it to a new setup (500 gig drive). I used the same old PC to do this upgrade as the last time.
I got the latest cake for my unit (Phillips DSR60000R1) and installed it. Everything seemed ok.
When I attached the new drive to the DVR it gets stuck at Welcome Powering up screen.
I have tried the TivoFlash routine.. but no luck.
Please help.. is the 500gig drive too big for a series 1?
I have another series 1 (working ) here as well If there was a good way to image the live drive to the new 500g drive id try that.
Difficult to say what the problem is with the information you've provided and the number of variables there are. A 500GB drive should work fine, though - so I'd ensure that its fully tested and that there is nothing wrong with the unit either. Then its basically about ensuring you are following the directions and configuring your PC and connecting the drive properly when creating your new replacement drive kit.

I have the same problem using a Western Digital 500 GB drive
I did the diagnostics on the drive and changed the cables, and found the only cure was to use drives of 120GB or less.
I had the same problem and learned that Western Digital changed their firmware such that only early versions of WD5000AAKB drives will work with series 1 units,
Later versions of that model WD HD will have the newer firmware update, as will all future models and won't work with series 1 machines.
Hope that helps, even though this is an old post...
