I have a TIVO Series 1, Philips HDR31202 that has a 120GB 'Platinum' Hard drive installed. The TIVO shows recording capacity under the "System Information" menu option shows 6 hrs 10 min (Best) and 21 hrs 18 min (Basic). Note that deleting/adding recorded program shows the same capacity numbers.

When looking online to upgrade my unit, I saw Tivos with 120GB hard drive are being reported as having 32 (Best) to 141 (Basic) hours recording capacity. This is quite a discrepancy with my reported capacity for the same hard drive space (120GB).

How can this be? Why isn't my 120GB Hard drive reporting higher recording capacity? Note: I am not the original owner of this TIVO so I am not sure if the hard drive I have installed is factory default.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks.
