DirecTV/TiVo failure

Just new here. I have an RCA DirecTivo 40GB that has failed. The screen freezes whatever picture there is. I unplug the unit, plug it back and after awhile it works. Until I try to change the channel or even use the remote for anything.

I ordered a new Amazon Series 2 but now realize it won't connect easily to my DirecTV. I've also learned that I have other choices; repairing the HD or going to ebay for a used unit.

Since I'm not a tech type, and the cost to repair is the price of a new unit, and a refurbished unit is upwards of $300 from weaknees, I am considering getting an ebay unit which would probably last until Direct and TiVo come out with their anticipated unit.

Any comments, suggestions greatly appreciated.
