    Clarification about InstantCake on TCD230

    Hello,

I have a Tivo TCD230 unit. I had expanded the hard drive of that unit a few years ago and that hard drive took a dive. I unfortunately ended up using a hard drive from a TCD240 unit to set up the new hard drive. The system seems to work ok, but I am running into a problem now that I am stuck at the software version of 7.3.1.oth since then. I am unable to push up to the latest 9.1 version so that I can do MRV across my tivo's. All that said, here are my questions.

    - What version of the software is present in the Instant Cake s/w for my model(TCD230)?
    - Assuming it is a lower revision(ie not 9.1), will the tivo system eventually update my software to the latest and greatest version?

    Thanks,
    G

Bottom line here is that the reason you are having a problem is because you are attempting to use a drive with software from the TCD240 on a TCD230 unit. These units use DIFFERENT versions of the software and if there is one thing we are adamant about, its NOT using the wrong software on a particular unit. (why? because TiVo DOES notice these things and we don't want to do anything that mucks up their systems and possibly changes their stance on upgrades).

So, as for the specific version, it varies from platform to platform (check the release notes for details), but 7.2.0 is typical for these models; of course they will update to the latest available once you install your new drive and go through guided setup.

Oh well, I did not realise the version mismatch issue. Once I finish watching the important stuff I have in my tivo, I will reformat and go back to the appropriate version.

I have yet to purchase an instant cake cd, but considering I have 3 totally different models of Tivo's do I have to spend $60 to buy 3 different copies of InstantCake?

    Thanks,
    G

Only if you want them to work perfectly
