I am trying to update a Tivo Series 3 using the latest InstantCake version itcd648-1.0-9.2a-01-2-648. This version is apparently designed for computers with just a few PATA or SATA ports and little else in the way of I/O and from perhaps 2007 and earlier designs. The directions given in the associated InstantCake help files indicate that ports might be numbered sda, sdb, sdc, sdd, etc. But in fact, on my computers, they have to have four digits such as sda2, sdb1, etc. I had to use MFSLIVE to even get close. Unfortunately, for the RESTORE command, I have not yet found ANY command that works with MFSLIVE and that will output the ISO to the 1TB HD. I have tried the HD on both the SATA ports and on USB ports using a USB to SATA adapter. No joy yet! The basic PTVupdater "InstantCake" on its own cannot even identify which sd* drive is the CDROM drive! I had to use MSFLIVE to get that far.

I think that some sort of integration of a port locator such as in MSFLIVE with InstantCake is urgently needed. As Is, I think Instant Cake is likely compatible with most computers made before about 2007 so if you have an old computer that has SATA ports, you might have an easier time than I have had with modern (2011) era computers that have NO IDE drives.

Does anyone have a few hints? I tried all the suggestions from random532's writeup, but still cannot get the ISO to transfer to the HD.

Thanks.. .
