6.3d to 6.3e via Slicer missing "network" option

I used the slicer to update my software from 6.3d to 6.3e, all went well except that my encryption no longer works and I lost my 30 second skip (if someone can help me get this back, I would really appreciate it). The other thing that happened is that I no longer have a "network" option in my Tivo Setup, just PHONE shows up. I am able to Telnet into my Tivo, TivoWebPlus and TyTools works so I do have network comm's. Any idea?

Sounds like it worked fine. Remember, Slicer doesn't preserve the hacks you put in place because it can't possibly know what hacks would apply in a future version of the software. It should have preserved your serial/bash access, telnet/ftp and your USB drivers, if used correctly. So it sounds like you are good and just need to go and reapply the hacks you must have applied at some point earlier when you either used PTVnet or the zipper to network your unit in the first place...

Lou, I am OK with the hacks not coming though but what is wierd is that I have no "network" option any more under my Settings when I go to my Tivo's menu. I only have a phone option available. I had it st up to connect through my network when it downloaded guide data, etc. Any idea on what caused that?

The only way you could have had a "network" option prior to installing the slicer was if you hacked your unit in some way; whatever method you used for doing that should be employed again; the "network" option is not one that is normal for 6.3d, so no reason to expect it would show up in 6.3e...

Remember, The Slicer doesn't have E.S.P. -- it can only do what it knows how to do...

Lou, I never thought of that, you are right on. I just assumed that te network option was part of the DirecTV software and not a hack. I used the PTVNet software I purchased and downloaded from your site, did this install the network option? If so, do I have to redo this process to get that network option back in or can I hack it in via FTP and Telnet? I will move to another forum after this question, nice product the Slicer is.

Problems slicing to 6.3e

I've got the 6.3e slices in MFS, but when I used Slicer to go from 6.3a to 6.3e, it responds that it successfully loaded the 6.3e slices, but in reality it just redid 6.3a, wiping out all my hacks and telnet and serial access.

I had to pull the drive and rezippered my drive to get hacks back. Now I'm still at 6.3a. It seems Slicer just redoes 6.3a and doesn't actually slice to 6.3e. How can I ensure Slicer actually loads 6.3e and not "a"?

Well, I did say it in my initial response to you, as well as in the instructions for the slicer... ;-) Please don't move onto another forum after you've gotten what you wanted, hang around and be part of the community. The answer to your question is in the "articles" area linked in my first response.

Thx.

You should be able to check that things worked by examining your /SwSystem info, as well as looking in the /install directory to ensure all the hacks got moved over. I've not heard of things not working for anyone else, so its possible something may have gotten corrupted when loading the 6.3e slices - if that happens, the system will revert back to its last known good configuration.
