Thread: Not Mounting

    Question Not Mounting

I downloaded the PTVnet and I have booted off the CD but it will not mount the drive. Got any ideas? I'm telling it to use hda.

I'm attempting this on my original drive. Do I need Instacake?

    Samsung SIR-4080R

    Thanks,

    Brandon

PTVnet expects the drive to be the primary slave \hdb

Any more information to provide than that? Have you tried a different device and/or verified that you have your hard drive connected properly?

You are aware that we recommend you NOT use your original drive with PTVnet (the product is designed to be used with a drive that has been upgraded with MFStools, whether it be InstantCake or on your own) but that should not prevent you from being able to use the product or mount the drive.

Without any more details, I'd guess you have more than one problem going on with your environment.

I would review the instructions and release notes and perhaps consider getting a new hard drive, running full diagnostics on it, and then using the combination of PTVnet and InstantCake to fully prepare the new drive for your unit; keeping your old drive as a backup.

So basically I downloaded the PTVnet and hooked up the drive as a slave/hdb. It was saying that mnt/tivo/init.... no such directory exists. I did the command mkdir to add the init/PTV_flags....(Actual Directories ?, I'm at work now) After that it actually didn't give me the errors about no such directory.

It really seems successuful. I took the drive out and put it in the receiver. It boots up and I got to "Watch TV" and try to record a show and it comes right back with Final Steps and thinks it needs to dial up DirectTV. I go through the Phone Setup and it ask me for the Area code, I have tried 000 and 503 and neither work for me. I can't see what # it is trying to dial.

Unless I can figure this out the receiver is junk to me. I have already spent the $20 for PTVnet so I need to be careful because I can buy one on ebay for $50.00.

I do want to get this working because then I can network my 2 Directtv boxes together I think. I could watch all the movies/shows recorded out in the livingroom in my bedroom.

How can I tell if it loaded correctly?

You shouldn't have to do any of that; no errors and no manual making of directories; doesn't sound successful to me.

How can you tell? No errors, and it should work.

In over your head, just start from scratch and follow my recommendations on using PTVnet and InstantCake together, it will be much easier for you.

I'm always in over my head when it comes to these things. LOL

Well it was saying no such file or directory. So at the Bash# I did a LS and went to the MNT directory and then TIVO and did an LS and there was no INIT...... Obviously I must be hooked up to the drive correctly if I can browse to those directories. After creating the directories I didn't get the error about no such directories when setting up PTVnet.

I can spend the extra $20 on instacake I just want to make sure it actually works. Do I boot from PTVnet first and when it ask me about instacake do I say yes?

Or do I boot from the instacake cd and then have it ask me for the PTVnet cd. I'm

It does work, but remember, you are attempting to use PTVnet on an original drive and that is not what the product is designed for - it is designed to be used on a drive upgraded with MFStools (that is what InstantCake uses).

The products together work fine; use PTVnet first - this is documented in the instructions.

    Talking

    Let's start with

I was hooking up my hard drive to HDD and my CD-ROM was HDC. I installed Instacake and PTVnet. Hooked up the Samsung receiver and it works. All I need now is a USB to Ethernet adaptor. I also have to run an ethernet connection to my bedroom tomorrow.

I'm excited. Thank for your help!
