Thread: Instantcake problems

    Instantcake problems

I went ahead and ordered a hard drive for my hdr3120x (Philips).

I ran instantcake and it completed succesfully.

I put the drive back into the tivo and then power the device on.

It just hangs at the first tivo screen asking me to wait.

What did i do wrong? What can I do to troubleshoot?

The hd spins up and the tivo functions with the old hard drives
    (after the GSOD).

What type of hard drive did you buy, make, model, size? Have you run the manufacturers diagnostics?

    Instantcake problems

    Same issue

I have a TIVO series 1 Phillips HDR3120x which had previously been upgraded to have original Phillips 20G drive plus an 80gb WD drive. Worked frine for years. Decided to upgrade, so...

I bought a 500GB WD Caviar PATA Drive to upgrade my TIVO series 1 Phillips HDR3120x
    I bought Instant Cake.

I followed instructions, ran Instant cake and got the successful msg - so Iassumed all was great.

I put the new 500GB drive in the TIVO unit, powered it up and couldn't get past initial black TIVO screen.

When I put back both original drives, I get the GSOD error, but then it restores to working order.

What am I doing wrong. How do I fix this?

I do not know if the bios of that series one tivo can handle a drive that big. Sorry that is beyond my expertise.

It has nothing to do with the size of your hard drive, but it could be defective or be related to the discussion I started in this thread at TiVoCommunity; please take a look and consider adding to that discussion with any data you might have.

Also, run diagnostics on your new drive to rule out the possibility that it is defective.

I just ran WD Diagnostics on the drive and it came up fine. No errors,

Tried the jumper as master , slave and cable select, nothing is working.

    Any other ideas?

Drive must be set to master no slave present ( no jumpers ) I have this drive and it will not work with jumpers present.
in terms of jumpers nothing is the correct answer

I've tried it with no jumpers also.

If it helps the hard drive is a WD5000AAKB.

Did you try it with no jumpers while InstantCaking? I own 8 of that model.

Would instant cake have succeeded if i did do it with the jumpers?
